Cleaning my bog/drift wood with plant

I have a fairly small to medium drift wood with a plant which i think to be a java fern. The plant leaves are covered in green algae some minimal and some to the extent that the algae is turned black in colour still covering some leaves. My drift wood is also partially covered with i thing green hair algae. Any suggestions would be helpful on how to clean my algae infested driftwood plant.

P.S. Continuance from Videl.
I have some hair algae growing at the back of my aqyuarium covering the whole back surface glass. Is this algae beneficial or should i scrub some down.
