Is there any equipment available at the moment that can clean out the fish poo scattered all over my sand. I know about gravel vacuums but I don't know if they're suitable for use with sand. I tried the old google but I got mainly pages using gravel vacuums or just a goldfish bowl. Someone help me!

Just use a gravel vac that is what I use and both of my tanks have sand. It takes a little practice to get the height right though. When you get it right though it works a treat just don't plunge it right in like you would with gravel.

Gravel vacuum but instead of pushing into the sand like you do with gravel, lightly hoover over the top of the sand :good:

if you hold the gravel vac about an inch above the sand and move it round in tight circles it creates a little vortex and sucks up excess poopy without sucking up sand. thats what i do anyway!

Yep, a normal gravel vac is probably best. With a little patience and practice, you'll soon be able to remove the dirt with the minimum of sand loss.

If you have a well planted aquarium how necessary is it to do gravel cleans especially if you have scavenger fish? :/

Can you not just put a handful of trumpet snails in there? They wont eat the plants but eat the poo.
