cleaning crew??

ok i've got some malaysian trumpet snails but am concerned that they arent gonna be efficiant enough, what else can i add? i have a sand sub and want something that'll keep it airated but the mt dont seem to be doing a great deal. i was told to keep yamato shrimp by a buddy but dont know whether they are more for brakish or saline water.
