when my girlfriend was getting my fish tank ready for me she cleaned it with some sort of chemical she said to take the scum off, i was worried but thought it would be ok and would cycle out in a few weeks, but i keep reading everywhere in capital letters saying NO CHEMICALS IN TANK, im kinda worried to put anymore work or money into this tank if the chemicals have ruined it.

do you think it would cycle out and become safe or what should i do?

Take it out in the yard & hose it like you never hosed anything before, spend a good half hour. I've cleaned really nasty tanks, the kind that look like a recovery from the Titanic, with Sno-Bowl toilet bowl cleaner. It doesn't get much stronger than concentrated sulphuric acid, and they work fine after a long rinse.

Check to make sure it doesn't leak before setting it up anywhere you don't want a lot of water hitting the floor, some chemicals, like the toilet cleaner, can soften & weaken the silicone seams if not used carefully. This can cause leaks.

im in Michigan, its freezing outside. if i scrub it down really good with a wet rag would that do it?

or could i just set it up and let it cycle for a little longer, or would that not work?
