When I moved house and broke down my aquarium, I put all my plants in to an aquarium at work. I am just about to set up my aquarium again but the plants have algae on them! Will a plecostomus eat the algae from the plants or is there a way of cleaning them up before adding them to my aquarium?

What about some amano shrimp? They keep my plants looking spotless! :)

My bristlenose pleco eats algae off some plants especially with broader leaves like sword plants, but there's nothing he can do about grassy plants like Vallisneria. Also, I have developed a case of what I guess is hair algae - long, grayish-black or green fibers growing off of my plants and some decorations. Neither the BN or my otos will eat that. I'm looking for a good way to remove that as well, since it does not seem to come off easily from my plant leaves. I end up having to just cut them off once the algae gets too heavy. I read that you can use a q-tip or other such device and wind the algae up but that didn't work for me.

Supposedly amano shrimp will eat the hair alage.
Thanks for the tip but I'm trying to keep something of a New World tank. I may have to "introduce" some "foreign" species though.
