I have a java fern attached to a piece of driftwood. I know that it came from a tank that's infested with ramshorn snails, which I consider undesirable for my tanks. :/ Normally, I'd treat the plant with the standard 1:20 bleach/water solution, but considering how porus the wood likely is, I'm hesitant to do so.

I don't really have access to fancier chemicals for treatment. If I bleach dipped the plant part only, and then isolated it for a few weeks in a bowl, do you think that'd work? Or can I possibly get away with dipping the wood and then using dechlor on it, like I normally would?

It's either:

A) So obvious, no one wants to reply to my stupid question.

or B) No one really knows, and so no one replies.

I'd rather not toss the plant out, but I'd prefer doing that over introducing invasive snails to my tanks. Thanks anyways.

Well.....if you dip the whole thing in 1:20 bleach/water and then rinsing it off good and letting it soak in water, changing it several times and the last with a good dechlorinator for a while, I honestly don't see a problem.....myself.
