what causes this? there is no ick or fin rot, just clamped fins.. :( is water change enough to cure it?

EDIT: i change 20% of the tank water every week

Clamped fins is usually the first sign of stress. The stress can be due to many factors, a few being disease and water quality. What are your water parameters? Is the loach clamping all of its fins, or just its tail?

well i used up my test kit cause of my tank cycle

and i never really had to use it often and when i do they are ALWAYS perfect so i didnt get one..yet but i change water every week :(

I do a water change every week too, yet somehow my nitrates were up over 50 the other day. I only found this out after losing 6 angelfish and some neons. My at home tests were faulty :(

I'd get some tests and check ammonia, nitrite and nitrate asap.

Don't forget to also check your tap water - mine was off the scale for nitrATES. :grr:

I thought I was making things better but in fact every water change made it worse.
