I've been thinking about keeping fish for a while now and i mentioned this to a friend of mine who told me that she had a tank i could have. Now heres the problem, her new boyfriend cleaned the tank (it had goldfish in) by putting the fish in a tupperware container, then emptied the tank and cleaned it with cillit bang, refilled the tank then put the fish back in. I dont need to tell you what happened. Since then he has cleaned it with fairy liquid. It is an 85ltr 30 " tank and is solid (i've leak tested it). I have read a lot about chemicals causing problems long term so i was wondering is the tank redeemable or shall i write it off, sorry if this sounds naive but i am a noob. cheers

I would think it is definitely redeemable.

It just needs a dam good wash out with fresh water if there are still calcium/water stains use some vinegar then rinse again.

Cheers so vinegar, if needed is viable? am i right in thinking any remnant acidity will be weedled out in the cycling process?

Diluted bleach can be used too, there's plenty of threads about how to use it. You can also use carbon during cycling to get rid of anything that could be left over.

i bet Barry Scott uses Cillit Bang on his tank.

LOL

Have you noticed old Barry has calmed down since his LOUD early days He's almost human now
