Spare tank i just recieved. I always wanted cichlids so what are my choices. I know i want something colorful.
Would yellow labs be acceptable

the tank is too small for yellow labs.
do you want cichlids from hard alkaline water or soft water?
soft water you could keep Apistogrammas, Nannocaras, Pelvicachromis sp,Nannochrimos sp, orange chromides.

hard water perhaps shell dwellers from the rift lakes, Julidochromis sp, Cyprichromis or Paracyprichromis sp.

i have a ph around 7.0 so i can really go either way. I was thinking of dwarf cichlids like Apistogramma cacatuoides but can't find them anywhere. Know any sites that sell them?

cacatuoides are a nice fish but I don't know any sites for them. They are relatively common tho so someone should have some.

Are orange chromides not brackish fish??

fresh or brackish. I always kept mine in fresh water. Never bred them tho so maybe they need a bit of salt for that.

Yeah I was reading up on them as I wanted a breeding pair for my 2 foot fish tank, but I read somewhere that they normally breed in brackish and its better for the babies to survive.

I think some of your only options for a 2 footer are a nice shell dweller tank or some kind of NW Cichlid such as Apisto or Rams
