Just out of curiousity, are there any cichlids that are compatible with freshwater puffers?

im not sure about any cichlids being able to live with puffers. most puffers are mean and bite alot, but so do some cichlids. if the cichlid was a communtiy one like a keyhole cichlid, i think it might me killed, but if it was an agressive cichlid, it would kill the puffer. so i dont THINK its a great idea to put a puffer and a cichlid together.

Depends on the mix. I would say, generally, it's a bad idea. Puffers are poisonous so even if the cichlid fought back it could die.

basically, NO. puffers, any kind of puffer really, are best kept in a species only tank. some can be mixed with certain community fish, but NOT cichlids, any cichlids. thats two territorial fish together. would be asking for trouble. even the dwarf puffers would be a no, as they can major fin nippers.
