i have a 70g 4ft tank and was thinking of doing in with the community for a bit of colour

i went down to a lfs (first time i have been their) and noticed a really actractive fish called the juwel cichlid one of the staff said it would be quite happy in my tank with the other comunity fish (didnt buy one tho thank god) i have now looked them up and turns out they can be a bit naughty towards my other fish

but my query is if i was to go for the juwels then what sort of fish would be comapatable for this size of tank and these types of fish

thinking about jack dempsey, severum, blue acara, convicts, pleco, sajica

Urgh, My dad has two Juwel Cichlids, and in the end he had to buy a new tank. He kept them with Malawis, and the 2 juwels paired up. And batterd a fair few of the malawis

IMO, I would recommend a species only tank with them, however im sure there are fish you can keep with these. :good:

i was just looking for a single juwel so i dont have the breading problems

Jewels can be very aggressive cichlids, especially if you end up with a pair.

I would certainly say no to severums (tank isnt large enough anyway), blue acara would get beaten up as would a sajica. JD, maybe but they themselves can be aggressive so I would say no to those too. You could have a plec, but not a small one I doubt. Convicts might be ok, again if you get a pair of those, they can be aggressive too.

You may be best off looking for some dither fish instead of any other cichlids.

Personally I would avoid the jewels unless you wanted them in a species tank.

What other fish do you currently have.?

it would be a fresh canvas

have done the comunity a few times now and was looking to go salty but it is far too much hassel with young kids knocking about near the tank

so was looking for some larger colourful fish
