Has anybody ever tried working with different kinds of lighting (spectrum, watts, bulbs, etc.) to see if it helps with aggression and over all health?

Just like to hear what people are using and if it works or not?

well I can't say that I have really experimented with my lighting but I will say that I have noticed that the brighter the light is the less active my fish are now how that translates to agression is that with most cichlids espically the agressive medium to large cichlids is minimal as they will defend their territory day or night though much more activity has taken place with the lights out.

Now if the activity is up with the lights out, would it make any difference if a light cycle let's say was 12 to 16 hours more or less. I know that the longer the light cycle it promotes algae growth, but does the length of a light cycle make a huge difference? Will it help with fin, scale and over all health and inner-peace of a fish. Does the cichlid need one source of light over another?

no not really I have noticed that when the lights are on for a long amount of time that they actually seem to get tired of it and just tend to chill out and not move much.
