Went to collect my tank this morning and got given a bucket fill of Cichlids.

Ive tried identifying them from pics online but dont trust my judgement!

First up, there are 3 of these. A pale peachy colour. Ranging from 3-4 inches.

This one is around 4 inches. Only one of him.

These 2 arent the best pics, but I think they are a pair of Malawi Goldens? I did originally want to get some of these but was told to avoid them as can be very aggressive - so far havent caused any problems atall.

There are a few others that I cant get any good pics of.

I think there is a Marbled Peacock, an Electric Yellow, a small dark blue striped one. A pure white one with no other colours that I can see. The last one is dark yellow with a black stripe on his top fin.

Also got a featherfin catfish in with them all.

I will try and get pics of the others tomorrow, but can anyone let me know what they are?

Is there any that need to come out?

I dont mind rehoming/getting another tank if needs be.

Thanks alot :)

This one looks like a Metriaclima estherae Cichlid.

This one looks like a Pseudotropheus socolofi Cichlid

These two are called Melanochromis Auratus Cichlids.

-FHM

The while one is probably pseudotropheus socolofi (albino), not sure on the others until you get pics up.

I'd definately recommend rehoming the m.auratus, just because they aren't causing trouble now, doesn't mean they won't. :good:

Looks like Auratuses and Red Zebras. Depending on what else you have in your tank or are going to add to your tank I would advise you to get rid of your Auratuses due to their super agressive nature.

  1. Pseudotropheus estherae (Red Zebra)
  2. Not sure but dont look like a socolofi
  3. Melanochromis auratus
  4. M. auratus
And yes M. auratus are nasty little bliters, how ever if you have enough space and enough fish for then to harrasses your be ok.
If you have only a couple of fish then you either need to either rehome them or something

Well the female M.Auratus was dead this morning. The others are all doing well, the male is being fine and not causing any aggression as of yet.

I will try and get more pics of the others.

Thanks alot!
