Yup, they can be pretty aggressive, especially if they are kept in undersized tanks with fish small enough to swallow. They do best in 125gal or larger, with other large aggressive haps. Though they are piscavores, goldfish aren't the best for them. Like most cichlids, venustus have excellent appetites and will eat just about any food you throw in, there's really no need for feeders.![]()
Cool thanks, Wanted to know what he was before i move him to a display tank i am setting him up at the weekend.
I'll Open a Tub of Cichlid Gold and Supreme For him.
He will love Hoppers and Crickets have hundred of them.
Would Gravel or Sand be better for him as he likes to play with stones like an oscar.
Now i can Print out a care sheet for anyone thinking of buying him. Buyer beware.
Thanks for all the help guys.
he is a Stunning Guy.

He definately is a lovely looking fellow. For more natural digging behavior (and the enjoyment of the customers) I'd go with sand, as long as you don't mind him decorating his tank the way he likes.
Because he has a history of killing other fish I'd watch him very closely if there are going to be more in the display tank besides him, and if so, I'd add the other fish first and allow them to set up their territories before the big boy goes in. It may end up though that he'll need to be kept by himself, some haps just don't ever play well with others. If so, he'll still need a 6ft tank in order to have plenty of room to swim.

Thanks for all the Info.
I have taken out a 2*2*2 Cube for him from the Back, Would this be OK. its just for him and would have a Fluval 304 on it just for him.
I don't think we will sell him know as his colors have popped since giving him hoppers/crickets/mealworms/pinkies/chicks and cichlid gold supreme.
I'll use River Sand and A Large Terracotta Pot for him to play in.
Will be Planted with Lucky Bamboo - Toughest plant I know and even withstands Midas'.
Thanks Again, will be scaping his tank in the morning as this weekend has been a Rough one (Vertigo).

I really think 2ft is going to be too small, even as a display tank. These guys get up to 10.5", so he'll barely be able to move in a tank that small. You might be able to get away with a 3ft, but a 4ft would be better, they are open water predators and really need the swimming space.![]()
ok thanks, i emptied the 5footer and he will go in there tommorrow.
