I was wondering what Cichlids breed and raise fry as a group? Is the term Hareem?

I had this with my Brichardi, i am also aware that certain Tang "shell-Dwellers" do this.

As a longer term project i am interested in something like a Juwel 300L tank or equivalent size and house medium size cichlids that raise fry as a group. Would be happy to have the entire tank for just one species of fish if required.

So when i refer to "medium" size i am not really thinking of Brichardi or Shell-Dwellers, maybe fish that are similar in size and average size reached in aquaria as a Firemouth or Convict

Going to hit Google now, but just wondered if any peep knows stuff on this or has experience?

Out of interest, do Frontosa breed in this way???

Would also consider non-cichlid fish that breed in this way too, but some of the requirements in terms of what i can offer and my own tastes are

1. the fish is at least 3 inch as a starting size

2. trying to avoid pale / one dimensional colouring (such as brichardi, albino convict extra)

3. biggest tank would be about 48" long, and deep holding at least 300 litres (67 gallon)

4. tap water for me is about pH 7.8 and pretty hard

5. substrate of sand only BUT NO PLANTS, either rock or bog wood or a combination

As far as I know, if you want a harem style breeding group then go africans. All NW's that I know of are monogamus pairing fish and will stay with a mate for their whole life more times than not. But I do believe most african's are more social will breed in a harem style... ask in the african cichlid forum for more info about them though as I'm not positive
