Hi I'm new to this page. My name is Dianne I have just recently set a tank up for a pair of Cichlids have been told they are south african but i have no idea,they are a young pair have been in my tank for almost 2 weeks and have already laid and hatched their babies..I am trying to identify their breed sop i can research correctly any help would be great..Will post pics if someone could explain to me how to..Thankyou

thanks i will try that but i did ask if they were a south american breed and she said no south african.
 
to post pics you can use either imageshack or photobucket (just stick it in google) id say go for photobucket over imageshack, just because you sign up and the photos are saved in an album rather than like imageshack i dont think you need to sign up for so the photos wont be there forever. Then you use the code thats something like [.img]imagename[./img], hope this helped :good:

Hi Thanks for that signed up to photo bucket and putting some pics up now can only hope I do it right was I ment to copy and paste the code to my reply???

As binge says, they look like jewel cichlids, but, in the second picture, they have the same sort of shape as a firemouth or elliotti cichlid, the first picture on your link also looks in some form, like some sort of flowerhorn cichlid hybrid, but i'm no expert.
 
They look like some sort of Geophagus to me, and with those sparkles on the adult i would say Geophagus Braziliensis, which are definetly South American :)
