Saw this fish in my lfs, in with the 'mixed cichlids' although it was a bit bigger than the rest. It looked lovely, a deep apricot colour so I asked the lfs guy about it "Yep, go fine in your malawi tank. All the cichlids we've got are non-aggressive and will go in a mixed tank. That's all I know about them, but I'm sure of it". Was very tempted but thought......better check on it first.

Glad I did, just found out its a Midas, new world not african, likely to grow to 10" plus, needs a 75G tank on its own and is likely to kill any tank mates.

I wish they'd put Baensch on a Palm Pilot or something so you could take it round the fish shops with you!

yea ..the guys in Fs are just like that ....they only want your money :sly:
Either that or they're genuinely ignorant

They're a lovely fish... if having a single-fish tank is your thing, lol

yep gotta love a midas, I am lucky in that mine is as pure as they get. most LFS midas are a RDx Midas cross. but even at 7" he is so full of attitude if you look into the room where his tank is from another room he charges right to the front of the tank and starts bitting and flaring at you midas are also known to make "popping" noises which mine has done more than once freaked me out the first time mine did that.

did you get yours from Jeff Rapps, Juan?
if only i had enough space for one....
My lfs has pure ones, some arn't for sale though :(

DD no mine didn't come from Jeff Rapps he came from Cichlidmaster. and was only 25 dollars to boot.
