Hello all. Well, after a couple of water changes I think I have my nitrate problem pretty well in hand. I am prolly gonna let things stabilize for a bit then begin to add again. I was at the lfs looking at chromis' and had a couple of questions. First, the gal at the store told me they do much better in groups of 2 or even 3 than solo. Is this true and is it a big deal? Also, would 2 clowns and 3 chromis' be too much for a 20 gallon? I would think so which is why if possible I would like to just add 1, 2 MAX.

Sounds like a good plan

In one way she is right in another wrong!! She is right that chromis do better in groups, but groups of five and above

imo you could have a much better choice of fish in your tank, what happens with a small group of chromis is that they pick on the weakest, usually to the point of killing it and then if the two left are not a pair it will happen all over again! Chromis grow quite big, too big for you to have three in your tank anyway. You could have the clowns and a small goby/shrimp combo. if you are very good with water changes and test weekly and are prepered to do a water change at short notice you may be able to push the stock level to another small fish, but I wouldn't do it until the tank is very stable with the clowns and goby (if you go for a small goby)
