Hi

My Chromide babys are 2 days old . They are in the main Tank with the other fish and I realy dont
want them to end up as fish food. When can I take them out ( Without parents ????) and put them in
to a different tank? How long do they depend on their parents ?

Thanks

Sabby

Orange chromides are difficult to raise away from their parents. They need to be with their parents for at least a month, possibly two. In the wild, according to Loiselle, the parents look after them for 4 months! So anyway, take it easy, and let the parents do the work. They may eat the first brood or two, but cichlids usually get it right eventually.

Cheers,

Neale

Thanks again

What about waterchanges ???? Will that disturb the parents ???

Promise no more questions about the babys

As with all breeding cichlids, make small changes, and do them quietly. If in doubt, don't do them at all. Skipping the water changes for a few weeks won't kill the fish. There are plenty of good books on breeding fish -- I'd suggest tracking one down. You'll probably find one very useful as you start experimenting with other fishes in your collection!

Cheers,

Neale
