Fishaholic
A few years ago, I jumped into the world of fish keeping, and soon was engulfed. Shortly after, my husband joined too - and now the two of us share a hobby that we love.
I think we've gone a bit off the deep end at times, especially since we've recently been dubbed as the "Fish People" by our pals...lol
Most of them call on one of us if they need/want advice on certain fish (a few of our friends actually keep smaller tanks, or just a Betta). Unfortunately, there's one that just won't listen.
My husband has an online friend who lives a few states away. She's a mom of a small toddler and had a brilliant idea. She wanted to suprise her young daughter with a fish tank for Christmas. So, she spoke with her Pet Store and learned that a tank only needs to be running for 24 hours before adding fish!
So, her brilliant idea was to buy the tank (10 Gallons) Dec 23, put it in a closet (completely full) and let it run for 24 hours. On Dec 24, she'd add the half-dozen goldfish to the tank. After her daughter went to bed, she'd pull the (now full and stocked) tank out and put it under the tree.
Now, I'll admit, that's a pretty cool idea, and if you were a kid, could you just imagine waking up to find FISH under your tree on Christmas morning? I won't get into the details of why this won't work - I'm sure you all know what they are. Brian tried endlessly to talk her out of the plan, tell her what should be done, and even suggest a correct list of fish to be kept in the tank. She just blew him off, saying that her Pet Store told her it'd be ok, and they wouldn't lie to her!
This whole story got me thinking, and I wonder how many fish suffered needlessly this holiday season. I'm sure these poor fellas did.
