strong filter
and water changes weekly

IS THIS GOOD OR BAD?

well you cant really have the mollies they are much better with salt but quite a few of your other fish are intolerent of it also its never ideal to be overstocked

You'll be ok while the filters running.

But if you have a power cut and the filter goes off for a couple of hours. Good luck! :hyper:

Since when the HELL did Mollies need salt??! They're completely freshwater and sold as that in all outlets. I had mollies ages ago which lived fine in my tropical tank.

since forever, black mollies particularly will do loads better in slightly brackish water. there's absolutely tones of research to support it have a look at n monks pinned topic in the livebearers section. Mollies will survive in freshwater but they will be about a billion times mroe susceptible to disease and it's really not a kind existence for them. For them to thrive they need to be kept slightly brackish.

yea, ive never kept mollies before but even i knew this :fun: they will survive in freshwater but you don't want your fish just surviving...you want them to flourish! :band:

mollies are brackish & shpuld be kept in those conditions

& pinkdolphin how about

You don't want your fish just surviving BUT THRIVING..... :p

I have a 55 gallon planted tank and the plants do not make that much of a difference.

Aside from the overstocking issues, there are some compatability problems here, and some of the species you are suggesting should be with more of their own kind.

I think you need to sit down and decide which fish you like best, and stick with just a few species that are compatable. They will be happier and healthier that way. Pick your favorite and do a lot of research on it. Discover what would go well with it. You will likely end up needing to return some of the fish you already have.

And as for the ropefish that you specifically asked about, I would not keep it in a 55 gallon tank regardless of tankmates. They get very large.
