Hello, I've set up a 98litre tank this past month and I would like to keep a pair of GBR's, now I've got the other fish decided but I can't decide on which fish I should choose to be my schooling fish.

Stock List

  • Pair German Blue Rams
  • 6 Metae Corydoras
  • 6 Ottocinclus
  • 3 Kuhli Loach
Now the fish that I've got written down to choose from is:

  • Galaxy Rasbora
  • Black Neon Tetra
  • Cardinal Tetra
  • Lemon Tetra
  • Pentazona Barb
  • Black Line Rasbora
-----
Ideally I don't want the schooling fish to mix in with the Rams electric blue markings, so that's kind of knocked out the Cardinal and Neon tetra.

So has anyone got some ideas?

If anybody is interested in the setup of the tank, it can be found here.

Thanks,
slakey

In your tank, Albino Neon Tetra, Gold Cardinal Tetra, Glowlight Danio, Rummynose Tetras or Celestial Pearl Danios would fit in nicely :good:
I'm not a fan of Pentazona Barbs, Black Neons and Lemon Tetras all grow quite chunky

I was actually thinking Rummynose lol, that should be added to the list.

Never seen Celestial Pearl Danios before, shall look them up, thanks for the input.

Celestial Pearl Danio is the new name for Galaxy Rasboras, you're still calling them by their old name

Oh lol.

I saw them a few weeks back at Swallow Aquatics and that was the name they had for them, my bad

GBR's need to be at higher teamps than a few of the selection you have made. The GBR need to be in a temp ideally between 27-30 degrees. The Cory's will struggle at that temp. Cardinals are ideal as they are fine at that temp. Celestial Pearl Danios would also stuggle with the temp.

nice looking tank BTW :good: Where did you get the HC 'cuba' from?

Hmm, I have a problem then.

I got the HC from the pet store I work at, I bought all 3 pots.

Not many lfs will keep hc Cuba in, good find!

A lot of people forget when keeping GBRs, that they prefer high temps. I know from personal experience, they don't do well at all at the lower temps. They are really sensitive fish.

Okay, well I have seen some more Corydoras I like, that can live in GBR temps :D

I'm not losing my GBR's just for Metae Cory's, yeah they are nice but meh.

Sterbai Corydoras, temps: 24-28 degrees :)

I read that Cardinals are ideal, but they are the same electric blue as the rams markings, and I really want the shoal and the GBR's to stand out from eachother, if you get what I mean.

Espei rasboras can live bottom end of the temp range. Have you thought about them? There would be some nice colour in there.

Hmm, not really a fan of the Harlequin's personally.

I really do like the Lemon Tetra's and I've read that they can live in waters up to 28 degrees, so they are a contender.

The Black Line Rasbora can also live in 27 degree waters, but they get a bit too big, reaching 5 inches :(
