Chocolate Zebra Pleco (New Tank)

hi all,

The situation... I had a large-ish tank running for about a year but then all my fish died in the space of a few days :'( but for one surviving chocolate zebra pleco . It has now been 3 months since the last death and he has been all on his own in a small 2ft tank as i didn't see the point in keeping him in the large tank, he hides most of the time anyway. I was wondering what would be the best companion for him, considering the smaller size of tank. Also I was wondering how I would be certain that the disease they all caught is gone before adding any fish.
