There! ;0)
I posted a thread on Saturday 8th (I think) about my female dalmation molly dying, etc etc. I bought another molly to keep my male company because he looked lonely! Thing is, I actually forgot to ask if the LFS guy had fished me out a male or female! I got distracted by the tiger oscars! So I added him to my tank anyway, and he(or she!) was fine. And, I actually forgot to check at all if he/she was a male or female because I was just making sure he/she settled in. He/she was really small compared to my other dalmation male molly. Anyway, yesterday, I found him/her dead, floating at the top. He/she looked like he/she might have been in a bit of a scrap but all my other fishes are fine. I did also wonder if it might have been stress because I did a 50% water change a few days after adding him/her to my tank and I used a GravelVac, but he didn't seem bothered.

Hang on - I'm just going out - will add to this thread later!! SORRY!

Yeah i think you might have stressted out or killed it yourself. Im sorry i know that sounded harsh but i did the same thing i think. While i was cleaning my tank i was moving things around when i came back from putting things up i saw my black molly dead on the bottom. That same morning she was fine she would always swims everywhere so i think that i accidently hit her while moving things around. So im sure that is what you did. Im sorry. Next time we will be much careful and the good thing is that you can take the fish back and get another one since they are sopposed to have a 14 day garantee. Again im sorry and good luck with new fishes in the future.

How did your original fish die? You shouldn't buy new fish until you know the cause of previous deaths. What are your water parameters like (and I mean actual numbers not just 'their fine')? Is the tank cycled? What other fish are in there? The disgruntled state you found the fish in was probably due to the other fish nibbling on it - not attacking it to death. Also, sexing livebearers like mollies is easy - just look at the anal fin and you'll notice that it is tube-like on males and fan-shaped on females. It's a very obvious difference once you know what to look for. Did the fish look bloated or have pine-coned scales? Did it eat alright? Do you know the pH of the store's water - what about yours? Did you take your time to acclimate the new fish or just put it in the tank right away?
