These were there when I got to work today... my boss said this is one of the best shipments of them we've ever gotten, they look GREAT! Very active and healthy, and the two I took already ate after I got them home :D. Quite apart from the licorice gouramis we got a week or two back that all died within 24 hours, but those shipments were from two very different companies... just goes to show the difference a good supplier can make. My fish encyclopedia of a coworker said he has bred them before and the trick is a pH of around 4 . I may try to breed them eventually, I'm about 80-90% sure I got a pair, but for now they are just tankmates to the Betta albimarginata juvies. I will probably pop them in a tank with the pair of B. simplex I am getting, if they ever get shipped :X

Sorry for the crappy pics, but I had to put a lot of blackwater extract in the water to make them comfortable. :)

Those are wicked fish.. I've only seen them once around here.. bought 2.. both were dead within a week.

Hope you have better luck with them then I did! Crappy suppliers suck btw.. I know what thats like.

dont gourmis and bettas fight?
She's keeping them with a wild species of bettas, so no, these ones spicifically won't fight. I can't say all wilds don't fight eachother, but I know Synirr knows what she's doing because she has/had like a billion bettas.

Yeah, most wild species of betta are ok with gouramis, depending on the gourami. The albimarginata are small and peaceful, the juvie tank has several subadult/adult males that live together without a ripped fin one, so they will be fine I'm sure.

Aaww wow, these fish are great. Not the easiest fish to keep though.

Lovely Gouramis Syn, I have had them are they are so curiuos but difficult to keep.

A coworker of mine uses lemon juice to bring the pH down in his apisto tanks, I am probably going to be doing the same for these guys if the blackwater extract and such can't take it down to around 5. After I get back from visiting my parents this weekend I'm going to set up a tank for them that has oak leaves as substrate, which should keep the pH low and relatively stable. I also get free RO at work, which will be helpful if I can't regulate my tap water well enough for them :good:
As of now they are still eating and doing great.

If you like these guys, and vespicula depressifrons, check out nandus sp. A mix of the two!

Yep, we have one of those at work right now

Not a great pic, but it shows the colour :D

That's a great little tank for its size! ;) Are you feeding them bloodworms, or no? Do you feed then the same as your bettas?
