Hi all
Im new to the hobby of marine fishkeepig. 4 weeks ago I walked into a fish pet shop and saw this massive 2x1x1m reef tank, I stood in front of it for 20min, in disbelieve, and I knew I was hooked.
With time running out to buy the new wife a wedding present, I knew what she was receiving...a marine tank!
After doing loooaaads of research, I bought a 175 litre matured tank on ebay with some stock and loads of LR, and made a weekend of it to collect and transport the tank, equipment, fish, LR, and 80% of the water from Exeter to Kent!
The relocation went smoothly, all the fish survived the ordeal and the tank is now up and running, with the 2 turbo snails being the latest addition. I didnt think the Doreen, the Regal tang was going to make it, she was on her side, not moving and covered in white rings, but 3 hours later, she claimed her piece of the LR and is the most energetic one of the lot. Doesnt stop eating!
Anyway, the question I have is this. I've read that star fish should not be exposed to oxygen, which is why I find it strange that Chippie, the Choc chip makes its way to the surface, and with 3 legs attached to the side of the glass, leans backwards with the other 2 legs upwards to the surface, and the little tentacles waving about in the air!
I thought it might be hungry and gave it some shrimp, which was devoured in 2 days. Isnt it amazing how it squeezes out its stomach and eats its food outside its body?
Since then, its surfaced at least once a day. Is this normal?
Thanx in advance, Im sure I'll have some more questions to follow in the near future.
