Chlorine

Can anyone tell me what the effects chlorine would have on fish. Would it shred the tails of Guppies. How can you test for Chlorine in your water so that you can tell if your Chlorine remover has worked before you put it into your tank when you do a water change. jackie

All i know is that chlorine will kill ur fish chlorine also kills bacteria, and you need bacteria to breakdown ammonia and nitrites.
