HELP! My algae eater is semi belly up on the bottom of my tank! He is lying sideways in a corner of my 20 gal tank. His tank mates seem to be fine...
HELP! He seems to have lost some color, he is still breathing. He was fine the other day! His tank mates are around 8 platys and a molly. I have had him probably for over a year, is he just old!? *cringing*
Oh yea, PS I can't get to the LFS because we have around 8-10 inches of snow as well as ice on top! HELP!

All I have here is ick treatment.

Please anything will help!

Can you post water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
is he bloated.
Once fish lay on there back not good news as most of them don't make it.
What do you feed your fish.

Not a very good diet i'm afraid need more frozen foods and veg in there diet.
Also check your plec dosn't need bogwood to eat on as some do to stay healthy.
Take a sample of your water to the lfs and ask them to write the readings down for you.
Any other fish acting odd.
What does it look like when he goes to the toilet.
How is his breathing is it laboured.
Being pale can be stress to desease.
Is he still on his back.

I had some test kits when I first started my tank but I haven't needed them since my fish have had NO problems : (

My Chinese Algae Eater will eat frozen foods and veggies? My gouramis used to eat peas and cucumber but my platys won't as I have tried a few times.

None of the other fish are acting odd. Breathing is very slow and shallow, as I have to stand there for a minute to see if he is. Not his normal crazy always swimming around self. Yes, he is still on his side.

Just put some lettuce in? does that work? Don't have peas right now

If you can issolate him and try a bacterial med.
Laying to onside can be a sign of a bacterial infections, also being pale.
Keep a look out for when he goes to the toilet.

I would go get my water tested right now, and get med, but we are iced and snowed in the house.

Just seen the pic he dosn't look good.
Does he look on the thin side to you.
Sorry about being snowed in dosn't happen here in my area.

Yea he looks pretty thin, I feel bad that I didn't notice it sooner. :(
Well, the thing is we don't usually get snowed in either! Nobody knows how to drive on the roads nor are they plowed.

Ummm...He is sucking on the rocks right below him. Is it okay to move him to where there may be more algae? He is breathing a little better to????

Thank You!

How often do you feed the fish aday.
Are they getting enough food.
Being thin can mean not being fed enough, old age, fish tb, internal parasites.

Ohhh. He's dead :(

I had been feeding them once a day in the morning, but read that you should feed more often with babies, and my babies are a few months old, so I have been feeding twice a day.

Is that enough? Was I supposed to be feeding the algae eater a algae pellet?

Yes you are meant to feed agae tablets to them.
Keep a look out for when your fish go to the toilet.
Are any other fish looking skinny.
R.I.P. Bless Him.

:rip:
But remember, you tried your best and there wasn't much more that you could do (considering that you were snowed inside your house).

I don't tend to have that problem here is Australia!!
