Are cherry shrimp compatible with platies, endlers, ember tetras and a male betta?
I understand the male betta may eat them but I'm going to risk that. It's the others that I really need to know about.
Thank you! :)

All I know is that platies are fine with them, it really depends on the size of the tank your going for, if its large and theres many places for the shrimp to hide then it will minimize the risk of being eaten. Many people say that if it looks like the shrimp will fit in the fishes mouth then it'll get eaten, but this does depend on the sort of fish in the tank and the size of the shrimp. Have you actually seen the shrimp you want to buy? If they are very small it may be a good idea to wait a while till you get them.

I've actually already got them
There are plenty of hiding places for them in the tank, so that's covered. I've also read that they like elodea, and I have lots of that in there. There's also plenty of algae in there for them to eat, and plenty of space for 4 shrimp.
They're too big to fit in any of my fishes mouths, probably even too big for a betta.
If they ate all the algae, could I drop in some small algae discs? I've got a packet of those just in case. :)

Yep they love em. Problem is that when theres loads of fish in there too then they get scared off by the fish eating it up and dont get much themselves. Dont worry though shrimp eat hardly anything!

Okay! I'll keep an eye on them, and if they seem to not be getting enough I'll drop in a few algae discs in shrimp-only areas.
Thank you for the info! :good:

Wow, just put them in and they seem to be doing really well!
One of them seemed to be a little stressed at first, but now they're all swimming around and exploring their new environment!
Thank you for your advice :)

I found that they absolutely love java ferns in my tanks, I am thinking of getting some red crystal shrimp next weekend as my algea is starting to build up now there is no snails. Also I had always wants crystals from the start, they look absolutely lovely! Hope your shrimp manage their first molting without any casualties

Yes, its likely the adult shrimp will survive all of those fish being in their tank however, unless your tank is heavily planted any baby shrimp are likely to be eaten by the betta

That's what I was expecting, and that's okay anyway. I'm overrun with fry from my platies anyway, so the sooner I can get my betta in the better!
