i got given some cherry shrimp which i was going to put in my big tank (sig) but when i got them they were quite small and would have been eaten, so i put them in my betta tank
now im wondering if it was such a good idea as im sure his eyes lit up when i put them in
does anyone think they'll make it!?

Wouldn't recommend it... Espescially is your betta takes an interest in the shrimp... the are carnivores after all.

My cherry shrimp lived his existence in hiding for about a month in my 1-gallon dorm room bowl before I found him one day squeezed sideways between my betta's jaws like a chew-toy! Thinking fast, I hit my betta in the head with a slurpee straw and scooped him out with a slurpee straw, but it was too late. His shell was cracked, so I squished him as swiftly and painlessly as I could. I liked him more than my betta :(. Now I travel forums advising people against making the same mistake. I hope his story can save shrimpkind from becoming seafood.

RIP JACQUES. YOUR DEATH WAS NOT IN VAIN.
:rip:

True enough the smaller ones may become snacks. Larger shrimp are better with bettas. Like Ghost shrimp.

i have my cherry shrimp in with all my bettas but as long you have plenty of cover then the shrimps live along happily with the bettas - yes they night eat the babies but if you have cover they wont be able to find them
i have cherry shrimps in with all mine

My cherries didn't last long with Kai, but kai is a pretty big betta in comparison to my other boys, so maybe i'd've had more luck with them. I know they're pretty, but the larger types of shrimp would be better I think... I have ghost and filter shrimp (the filter shrimp need quite a biggish tank with an area of fast current so they can fan for food) and they all have sooo much personality :D

I found if you have lots of foliage the shrimp find ways to hide from them, and even breed.

my cherry shrimp didnt live well with my bettas, they were full size, in a heavily planted tank and the betta stalked them until there were none left... i loved those shrimp too. Ghost shrimp work fine though. they are too big for even my biggest betta.
