Is there shrimp per gallon rule when it comes to cherries?
How many can I keep like say a 2 gallon or a 5.5 gallon tank?

Thanks

Not really although with an exclusively cherry tank that size they will quickly overpopulate the tank. Make sure the tank is well planted with mosses and plants it adds to there food source

2 Uk gallon - 20 is I would start with 5 and let them do there thing
5 gallon 40 I would start with 5-10 and again let them do there thing.

Either way you will be selling on the spares so if the tank has been well matured I would start with a few crystal red shrimp and sell on the excess you will get a lot better price if they are of a good grade of quality. The tank needs to be mature 2+ months for CRS though.

Ok, thanks for the quick reply saltynay. I plan on keeping a cherry only tank about 5.5gal. I was thinking if could keep a considerable amount of shrimp I could use some as feeder shrimp for my other fish (since they can be easily raised unlike ghost shrimp).

One more question though. What do you mean good grade of quality?

Cherries aren't graded so don't worry about them. Crystal red shrimp, Crystal black shrimp, blue tiger shrimp, etc can be graded according to there colouration. With Crystal red shrimp itgoes in terms of quality C<B<A<S<SS<SSS and with each increase in quality the price of the shrimp goes up. In japan they have nearly pure white crystal red shrimp which go for big big bucks.

If they are going to be used as feeders then grab the ones which have freshly molted as their armour will still be soft, otherwise some fish have problems digesting the exoskeleton

Thanks for your reply. I never knew shrimp were graded. I'll start working on the tank setup then. Thanks again.
