Bugger, looks like i`m one shrimp down already!! there is the body of a shrimp on my riccia carpet!!

How can i tell if its just a skin/shedded or if its a shrimp!

I`m pretty pee`d off now, and my molly looks a bit sheepish hiding in the corner!
Don't automatically assume it's a dead body (though of course it might well be). But when they shed, it looks exactly (feelers, eyes the lot) like a dead shrimp ! Pick it up with your fingers and you'll soon see if it's just the shell or a body.

However, if Cherry’s are anything like Amano's; they generally do not take well to shipping at all and you may well loose some within the first couple of weeks.

And also, don't think if you can't see them all, that some have died. I started off with 10 Amano and then at times could only count one or two. No matter how long and hard I looked and stared at the tank.

But I did a head count last night and am delighted that I actually have 8 (one decided to commit suicide and go wandering :grr: out of the tank !).

I completely agree with Bloo.

When I upgraded from a MiniBow 7 to my current 15, I thought I had lost all of my shrimp. I started out with about 8, but after removing all the plants, I found I had nearly double that! There were still about 6-8 large shrimp, and at least that amount of tiny little shrimp hiding.

And both of those tanks have a male dwarf gourami as the King of the Tank. He's gone through 8 Rasboras, but never even considers touching the shrimp. At least, not when I'm looking. :shifty:

As for the photos: I think I took more than 50 of each at different settings, then sifted through til I found a decent one. Those were the only two that were worth keeping. The camera is just a Panasonic LZ1, nothing fancy.

Cheers,
Marty

i have ghost shrip becasue they are 10 for a buck at the lfs yet they all seem to die when they shed. they have plenty of hiding but i think the water is to soft for them. my ph is between 7 and 6.5 and i think is too acidic for the little guys to handle. is there anything i could do to help them without changing my ph?
