Cherry barbs are egg layers and don't become pregnant in the sense that they carry their young inside them and hatch live fish. The female may become what's known as gravid when she's in breeding condition where she appears to be full or swollen with eggs. If you want to breed them you really need to set up a breeding tank just for a male and a female to spawn in so the eggs aren't predated by other fish in the community.

If you are a complete beginner I would just enjoy these lovely fish in the community for now and get used to keeping fish and maintaining good water conditions because that becomes even more important if you have to raise baby fish from hatching.
