do cherry barbs and bettas get along happily living together in a 40 litre tank? also would corys b ok in there?  :good: :shout:    :hyper: :shifty:

Roughly 10 US gal

Cories usually work well with bettas

Cherry barbs, i am not sure, the ones i had were aggressive

You could consider Harliquins instead

iv heard neons and tetra can nip betta fins. wouldnt that b the same with harlequins?
do all neons and tetra fin nip or are sum ok?

wat else would work with a male betta?

Generally only bottom dwellers or peaceful rasbora's such as harliquins, so cories, ottos, plecos (depending on tank size)

Also depends on the individual personality of the betta, some won't tolerate any tankmates

wat r ottos iv neva heard ov them b4? could sum 1 tell me plz? tankx :good: :good:

Tiger barbs are the worst - don't touch with a bargepole as really bad at nipping fins. Cherry barbs tend to be more shy but still a risk keeping with bettas I'd say.

Your tank also isn't anywhere near big enough for barbs. They need to be in groups and you don't have the space in a 40 litre tank. Harlequin rasboros you might be able to get away with though.

so would ottos nd corys b ok with a male betta and possibly sum harlequins? :good:

Otocinclus Affinus .. search for it

Thats stupid advice, Cherry Barbs are happy in 2's+.. besides, 40L = 10G = 10" of fish.. theres room for 4/5 cherry barbs there..

Barbs should to be in groups of six or more to prevent nipping and bullying of other fish and eachother. They school and display better too. So actually no, not quite as stupid as you may think, the last thing you need with a betta is a fish with such tendencies . Six fish of that size in a 10 gallon plus a betta will be cramped, even more so if he want's cories as well.

It would work a lot better in a planted 20 gallon. He could seal off a 5 gal section for the betta and have the barbs or other fish in the other section.

Threadstarter: I notice now you want oto's and cories AND harlequins in with the betta. Yes those would work in terms of temperament, although 10 gallons is pushing it a bit for space. You could possibly get away with 4 pygmy(dwarf) cories, 2-3 oto's and 4 harlequin rasboros. Although the rasboros do seem to be better in bigger groups, and look lovely when they school. But it could work I think.

the ottos can not be added after a good few months as they require a very mature tank

i would suggest:
1 male betta
5/6 Dwarf cory
5/6 Harliquin

Cherry Barbs will be fine in small groups. But I wouldn't suggest them with a betta.

You know, you could get ghost shrimp too. They occasionally work with bettas. The worse that could happen is the betta will eat the shrimp.
