hey folks
one of my female cherry barbs has been in the corner of my tank all day.
shes not sitting on the gravel, shes about 1cm, up, she seems to be breathing fine etc, just wondered if this was normal, because i only put her in on thurs, she did have a male companion but he died due to stress.

cheers. :good:

or is this just me panicking ?

she is slightly a different colour than my other female. the lively one is a brighter yellowly colour than she is.

It sounds like there might be something wrong. You say the male died of stress? Well what stressed him and did you remove it?

We need a bit more help to fix this. Water stats in ammonia/nitrite/nitrate/temp/pH if you have them, how big is the tank, what's in it, how long has it been set up and how did you cycle it? Have you noticed any aggression? Did the male that died have any other symptoms?

I had two tiger barbs but lost one...the other is alive and kicking :) Do you know what the other one died of?

When you say stress what is it you mean exactly?

Do you have plants in your tank? I know my barb sometimes has naps in the plants and just above the bottom. Even turns upside down..at which i panic but then she wakes up and is normal :)

Sometimes when they are tierd they just sort of..hang around...I might suggest giving her a safe space to sit like in plants or in an ornament.

Are there any other fish in the tank? Is she listeless and not eating?

the male i put in didnt seem right as soon as i put him in, the rest were as happy as larry.
the female died last night. i dont have my levels as me being an idiot didnt buy a testing kit. hopefully im going to get one today and do a water change.

She died already? :(

Sounds like they were both sick.

The best test kit to get is a liquid test kit. try and get one that measures all your stat. One test kit should have: ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, high and low ph etc :)

I did buy four baby barbs once..and they all died. They just didnt cope with the tank change. My barb is now nearlly two years old :)

it may have been something in the LFS's tank that day, because when the male died i had him replaced and got another female to make the shoal bigger, and these 2 seem to be fine.

and im going to try and get the API master kit that everyone raves about.
the water should be fine (my lfs wont let you buy any unless you take in a healthy water sample) but im going to get one anyway

I rekon they were to young to be ttransferred when i got them. They were the size of a 5cent peice (aus) so just didnt cope.

My current barb is doing well. Shes bigger then a 50cent peice.
