hey I'm starting anew salt watertank I told the fish store and they said it would take half hour each day to clean the tank and I would have to add bunch of chemicals. What kind of chemicals are they needed? And I have a 30g. Half Hour a day is a long time kinda is that true?

not at all... maybe a half hour a day (minamum) to watch your fish!

maybe an hour a week, like water test, watcher change... feeding... empty the skimmer... :D

Is this a fishshop that doesnt want you to keep saltwater fish because they simply dont have a clue themselves???

Nonsense! I do a daily maintenance but this is about 5 mins tops. I take a scraper and get rid of and dirt or algea that kight have arrived. A daily topup of about 6 ltres of RO water from loss through evaporation.

Um... thats it.

of courese there are other shceduale ect.. weelky ones like checking water peramters and water changes (which i do monthly).

Chemicals to clean the tank? sorry but that ir just plain wrong/ Whilst its true that Salt water can sometime fel more like a science degree in biology and chmistry, having chemicals for cleaning is not one of htem. In fact its p[ossible to run a tank without additional chemicals at all.

Dont let this shop dishearten you. If you want to keep marine fish then go for it. Ask your questions from people that have had expriences and no interst in maing a quick cash injection. I get no profit from giving advice here but i sure do get pleasure from seeing that the advise i give (and many others here) is put to good use.

Ok thank you so much. I told my brother what they said and he told me they were full of #### too. You'll probally seeing a lot of my posts up on salt water tanks so please help me out thx.

Glad to be of help. Keep the questions coming :)

I know i'm a bit late to answer this post, but just to give you another person's experience, I do maybe 5 min of tank maintenance a day. And thats only to put coral frags back where they belong after the #$%^&*ing hermits knock them off. Other than that, i syphon 1 gal out, replace 1 gal fresh SW once a week and thats it. All in all, i spend about half an hour to an hour on maintenance in a week. And i spend about 10 hours a week starring into the tank!!!

Also to this date i have never added a single chemical. My tank has been up for 5 months.
