Im unsure what phosphate remover to go for, i have a 125l tank, and i suspect the levels will be fairly high to start with.

I was originally thinking about rowaphos, but it seems every expensive looking at it.

Just wondering what you all use, and has anyone found a remover that is cheap but still effective.

thanks,
Adam

I use phosban, it is cheaper than rowa but just as good imo

Seffie x
i looked at that seffie, but the tubs are 150g, and it says you need 50g each time, so it only lasts about 3 uses, for £14.00. But does each use last like 6 weeks, thats 4.5 months for 14.00, that isnt too bad.

thanks

I use phoslock, but I probably don't need to since the vitamin C always keeps me at 0ppm. Could always look into the vitamin C. I have a topic about it here somewhere. I've had nothing but success.

Im dont really want to be dosing things daily, i'd rather put something in the filter and have it do its job for several weeks..

so the question is really, how often do you replace the rowa/phosban/phoslock in your filter guys?

thanks for your help

I replace mine monthly, that was when my phos started to go back up prior to the vit c using.
thats great thankyou.

I think i'll give phosban a go, see what its like, £14.00 for 150g, 150g does 5 months for my tank size, not bad at all really.

cheers everyone

An algae scrubber

yea? and they remove phosphate do they, problem solved! :grr:

they are very effective tbh...

i use cheato and phosban/rowa though....you would struggle to run an algae bed with no sump tho...unless you still have the filter box?

i have my external filter, which will be empty eventually, its just how would i modify it to house a algae scrubber, im not really set on the idea of drilling a hole in it to allow access for an LED? you gt any ideas.

how long do you replace the rowa ben?

thanks

Much cheaper and its just as good as every other GFO based phosphate remover on the market (they are all exactly the same), only difference being granule size between brands.

I have given up using GFO based phosphate remover in my tank at the moment. My phosphates are that high that I would have to replace it at least once a week so its just not worth it. Using liquid phosphate remover now but once it gets back down to normal levels I will switch back to the tanktests phosphate remover.

Personally I would get an overflow box, set up a sump with cheato in and an algae scrubber. They can work very, very well when done correctly (and works out a lot cheaper on bigger tanks).

thats great, thanks, do you use the tank tests liquid po4 remover aswell? i was thinking of using it because my levels are likely to be very high at the start, i will know for sure in a couple of days when i get a test kit. The only problem with the liquid remover is that it says to be dosed daily, this isnt always suitable for me, 90% of the time it should be fine though...

I would love a sump, but the tank is upstairs and im limited on weight, i dont want to add any more for fear of the floors collapsing, and plus, if there was a problem and something caused a leak :(. I may look into it in the future though if i find a new home for the tank.

thanks
