Before I go and order, does anyone know of anywhere cheaper than Aqua Essentials for these powders? Going to cost about £30 for a years worth, although the minimum size of KH2PO4 would last 2 years.

Garden direct sell powders - they come in larger quantities.

£30 still isnt bad, i pay £30 a year for my 60l tank on TPN+ lol.

Just been looking at TPN+, seems to get good reviews.

How much are you using per week in your 60l tank, don't they recommend 5ml in 50l once a week?

Are you sure you have your calcs right their?

By Aarons info above I get 0.3g Potassium Phosphate used each dose = 46.8g / year so 250g powder would last 5 years...? That's just for this element but others are similar I think, or have I miss-understood the process somewhere?

No, your calcs are sound I think, but so are mine.. :)

I'd only bother getting 100g of KH2PO4, because I can't afford 5 years worth of all three powders.

Not sure what prices the site you were looking at are charging but take a look here and let us all know which is cheaper

Fluid Sensor On-Line

mfcphil, I just added the order below into basket, which includes postage costs. We have a clear winner.

Thanks for putting forward their name, I wasn't aware of them, plus you saved me some dosh. Cheers :)

500g Potassium Nitrate
100g Monopotassium Phosphate
250g Trace Elements

Aqua Essentials = £29.92

Fluid Sensor On-Line = £25.51

Great news know which one I'll be using :good:

just a quick question

On the list I found for my 180l tank it says to use

1/2 tsp KNO3 3x a week
1/8 tsp KH2PO4 3x a week
1/8 tsp K2SO4 3x a week
1/8 tsp (10 ml) traces 3x a week

I see on your list and Aarons you don't have the K2SO4 ( Potassium Sulphate )...do I need this?

I'm only the monkey, you'll need the organ grinder for an answer on that.

Just might be a good idea to find out before I order something I don't need or you don't order something you do

I haven't ordered the K2SO4 with my powders. It's one of those things where from what I've read most tap water will have enough potassium in it anyway, (along with what the other powders add), so if you find your plants suffering from a defficiency, then get it at a later date, but I don't believe its one you need 'from the start'

Money saved is a great thing :good: Thanks Schmill

I love this forum.

I love this forum.

So do I. :good:
Always get the info I'm looking for.

From what I've just read, K2SO4 is sometimes used where there's already enough nitrate from the fish waste, so not needing the KNO3. So the K2SO4 adds the potassium without adding unwanted nitrate.
Someone please correct this if it's wrong.
