I have a 36 gallon and want at least 2wpg I am in the us what is the cheapest light I caan get I was looking at Interpet Convertagear T5 Power Compact 1x24

you can get the next one up which will be 2x 36watt, hmm spot on for 2wpg aren't I good :p

So,... what is the ideal WPG? I have a 22 gallon tank with 15 wats.
there isn't one since watts is like measuring the length of something in litres its the wrong measurement light intensity is what I understand is key, so that is really an unanswerable question.

watts doesnt even have anything to do with light, watts is a measure of how much electricity is used. Like a 60 watt incandescent light has the same amount of light a 11-14 watt compact fluorescent light has.

Well congratulations, you are the first fellow 36bow owner on this site that I've met. Anyway, so your going to want a 30" fixture. It looks to me that your going to have to bite the bullet and get a quality fixture. I reccommend this: http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem.asp...product=CU01022 It may seem like a very steep price but it has built-in fans, built-in moonlights, and is a good quality so it wont fail on you. Also, IF somewhere along the road you decide to try a marine setup, you might be able to keep a few corals with this fixture. In the end though, its your call...
