Hey

I have 2 black mollies in my tank, when they arrived they got on fine but when they were fed 1 of them wud chase the other away. I thought it was just because their was food but now it seems 2 chase the other anytime its in sight, meaning the other 1 just lies motionless in the plants which worries me about its well being.

Anyone any suggestions?

Thanks

Do u kno wut genders they are? Cuz boys usually chase gurls to breed, and if the other ones lying motionless it might be a pregnant girl, waiting 2 give birth or something like that. -heart  , ally86ozzy

sorry I dont know the gender's but the one that lies down doesnt look pregnant and is alot smaller than the other black molly..it looks more aggressive to be honest.

if you cant tell the genders perhaps you have two boys. In which case there will be in house fighting. I would suggest asking your lfs to tell you the sexxes and if its two boys get some more girls. If it is a boy and girl and the girl is fat and the one laying montionless then i would say you have babies on the way. My first fish were mollies...two days agter getting them i had a whole tank full of fry.

by the sounds of it u have male and a fwmale the reason she maybe be lying motionless is because the male is constantly harrassing her causeing her 2 be stressed posting a pic of both will help us identify sexes for ya the option u have is go buy another 2 females this will even out the amount of grief ur possible male is giving due 2 wanting 2 mate.

thanks for the replies guys. Decided to put the aggressive one in another tank I have now. The molly which was harrassed is alot happier swimming about now :good:

i hav no experience w/ mollies, but im pretty sure u can tell genders by their anal fins, the fins near their butt. if it is kinda pointed and thin, then its a boy, if its rounded, its a girl. good luck! -heart  , ally86ozzy

ally is right. if the anal fin is straight along their body (tucked in) its a male and if it is spayed out like a fan when vswimming its a female. males need 2 or 3 females in a tank.
