Changing To Sand Quick Question

im just about to go and buy some sand to put into my cichlid tank thing is though as most people know these are bloody messy fish so how di i go about cleaning the tank when its in there i would think that you cant gravel vac so what do you do?

The waste and extra food will accumilate on the surface of the sand, you'll be able to clearly see it. You just hold the gravel vac about an inch over the sand and it will suck up the waste, but not the sand. I just started using sand when I set up my 55 Gal. I think its much easier to clean than the gravel in my other tank. Good luck.

As said I also find it a lot easier to clean than gravel. Waste is so much easier to spot on sand. I dont even use a gravel vac I just use a piece of airline and hover it an inch or two above the sand.
