Hi all . Thinking of changing from my 15 gallon tank to a 28 gallon. Can I just transfer all water , substrate , filter media and fish all at once ? I'll have to add a few more bags of gravel aswell .

Yes. Though you don't need to use the old water. The only time you need to use old water is if the tank hadn't been cleaned for months and the tank water and tap water are different. If there have been regular large water changes, tank and tap water should be almost the same.

If you transfer the fish, filter media, decor etc at the same time as the fish, there should be no problem, but check ammonia and nitrite every day till you are sure they are staying at zero.

I assume you will want to add more fish as it's a bigger tank? Wait a couple of weeks before adding anything else then add no more than half the current fish population in one go - and check the water after each addition.

Great thanks. That will make it easier for me . Yes will add some new fish slowly . Hopefully the new tank is big enough for me . I'm addicted

Sorry for annoying yous again . Just wondering about my tank change . I was thinking of changing from gravel to sand as a substrate. Would it be a bad idea to have a new base when changing over ? Would I lose alot if good bacteria? Or would the filter and ornaments carry enough into new tank ?

You could always put the gravel in an open container in there to one side for a while. That way you’d get it’s benefits without having to tidy it up to take it out.
