Well im new to the fish hobby and im getting very addicted to it already i got a biorb for Christmas 60liters i set it up on the 25th dec left it for 1 week then on the 2nd jan i put 2 dwarf gourmies 2 zebra danios and 1 suckermouth catfish in the tank and there doing all fine but after doing endless amounts of research i found out the biorb isnt really that good i cant put really any plants in it theres only a small amount of fish that can go in to it and it doesn't aerate very well so im gonna buy a proper tank tomorrow 110liter i was just looking for any advice really on how to switch the fish over to other tank as fast as possible due as i have to take the biorb down to set up my new tank as but if theres no way that i could do this then i will leave the biorb setup as i dont want to put the fish in any harm

any other advice on setting up a new tank would be great

thanks in advance Dale :)

Unfortunatley your tank isnt what we call cycled, meaning that your fish are producing waste (ammonia) which your filter at present cannot cope with because it hasnt had a chance to build up any beneficial bacteria needed.

Take a look at the pinned topic (links are in my signature, above the fish picture) regards to cycling, fish in cycling and fishless cycling to give yourself a good idea of what you will need to be doing to help the fish you have thru this time of cycling the tank.

So right now, you could add the fish directly to the new tank because there is nothing in the biorb that is of any benefit right now, in fact it will be preferable because a larger body of water is easier to deal with and keep stable than a smaller one.

i forgot the name but i added these green tablets to my filter on the day i set my tank up to boost the cycling process there the best you can buy so i was wondering could i use my water from my biorb to fill my new tank and how long would i have to wait till i can put my fish in my new tank from my biorb ?

Thanks for the quick replys

Depends on what the water stats in your biorb, ammonia, nitrIte and nitrAte, if there are any traces of ammonia or nitrIte, then no dont use the water as this will only make the water quality in the new tank bad.

Do you have a water testing kit at all? Preferably liquid based test kit, if not, then it would be a very wise and essential investment for the new few weeks especially as you go thur the cycling process with fish in, it will help you determine when the water needs changing and how much, as with a fish in cycle the water can need changing daily, sometimes 2/3x a day to keep the ammonia and nitrIte levels low enough so as not to harm the fish too much.

there the words from the guy from the shop he said your waters fine no signs of nitrite i have ordered a liquid test from ebay hopefully here 2morow or thurs so i can do my own tests

Do you think i should ask the aquarium if i can take my fish back untill i get my new tank running then get them back after the setup is finished

Im not sure m8 he just said no signs of anything and said it was ok for my fish im sorry i cant be more precise

If they could take them back whilst you do a fishless cycle (please see sig for guide to fishless cycling) that would be great, much better for the fish and easier on you too, usually takes about 3-4 weeks or shorter if you can get some mature filter media.
