Well i got black but there isnt enough in the tank, soo im going to buy another 25 pounds and also buy some Flourite.

Unless you have an under gravel filter, adding or changing the substrate won't harm the cycling process. There is only a very minimal amoount of beneficial bacteria present in the gravel. Be careful mixing substrates as the coarser of the 2 will always come to the top.

No. Most if not all of the benficial bacteria lives in the filter media. You can change the substrate.


You will get different answers on the subject as some believe the bacteria lives in the gravel/sand and some believe its in the media.
