hi all i want to change the colour of the gravel in our tank, whats the best way thanks.

take all fish out, all plants out, put current tank water into 2nd tank where fish will go. Swap gravel out then replace old tank water plants, leave with filter, heater on until ready then transfer fish back. This way you still have bacteria in filter so that fish arent in clean water as it were.

The way I did it was. When a water change is due. Take out 25% and throw away. Get large container fill with tank water, and put your heater into it. Catch your fish after taking out scaping. This should leave you with a small enough amount of water to shovel out the existing gravel. Make sure if your filter intake pipe is above water level that it's switched off at last possible moment. Then you need to move quickly. Get old gravel out and new in. Put rocks etc back add fish and water then heater. Then top up with fresh. If temp drops too much you can always top up to full after the tank is back up to normal temp then add the fresh water.
