I have decided.....99% sure....to change the gravel in my 30gal tank to sand. I have read The-wolfs pinned topic in FAQ and I know how to go about it, I just want personal experiences etc. I guess.
The sand I will be using I managed to find at the hardware store. It is sold as "washed sand", which is a natural colour and sells for $6AUD per 20kg bag. The bad says "ideal for use as play sand, as a base underneath paving and *something else I can't remember*"
The play sand grabbed me because I know play sand can be used in aquariums. The BF bought some yesterday for the dog. The sand seems surprisingly clean (yes, I know I will still have to wash it).
To have approximately 2 inches deep in a 30gal tank (30inches L x 14inches W) how much sand would I need? I want to have 2 inches as I want to be able to continue growing plants in it.
In regards to the plants.....has anyone had any experiences growing plants in sand? was it a complete disaster? Or perhaps even a complete success? I have heard mixed reports in regards to this.....
TIA. I may have more questions as this thread starts to receive replies
