Changing From Gravel To Sand

Hi every one, I am in the process of changing my 10 gal tank(AGAIN!!). I'm changing from gravel to sand, just wondering if it needs to be as thick as the gravel was. I will be growing plants in it. Thanks in advance.

yup you need a decent depth for planting in, i made this mistake with my little 10g and it was an absolute nightmare, nothing would stay planted
