well just changed the substrate in my mbuna tank to sand as gravel isnt best for them here is a few pics of how i did it.
started with this.

Step one catch and bag all of the fish and float them in the bath in water the same temp as there tank.

step 2 remove all filter media and rock work from tank and place in 80ltr dustbin.

step 3 start to drain off all the water from the tank into the 80ltr dustbins i used 3 to drain my tank.

Step 4 remove all old gravel and replace with new cleaned sand sorry didnt take and pics of this add rock work water and fish and the all done hey presto and here is the finished article obviously it will clear up in there over the next few hours.

oh my gosh! it looks 329083204803 times better! was definately worth the effort

why does the first pic hve a yellow glow, and the last pic had a nice white glow?

Hi

Looks realy good. I want to do the same but mine is a 100 gal tank. How long did it take you ?

Sabby :good:

about an hour mate longest bit was working out how to put the rock back in i would say the job isnt very hard.
why does the first pic hve a yellow glow, and the last pic had a nice white glow?

I changed the juewl warm lite for another normal lite today so it looks alot better in the tank.

lol i said to my wife about putting the tank water in the bath nd letting them swim cant say she was to chuffed about the idea.

Then it would need a good ol cleaning.. I remember catching newts from outside and putting them in the bathtub.. then waiting for someone to go into the bathroom and freak out..

Tank looks better I think.. I've always preferred sand to gravel.. except play sand!! I'm about to change my play sand to pool filter sand, as those deadly gas bubbles are everywhere I think.

It's only about an inch or two, but it's horrible to clean.. the tank is always filthy.. I have another tank with pool filter sand and it's nothing like play sand..

The pool filter sand is finer, and poo doesn't float all over the top of it and all around the tank. I hate play sand!!

oh well all the poo is sitting on top of the sand at the moment i will get it all up with the gravel vac when i do my weekly water changes.
