I would like to use sand in my 10 gallon crab tank instead of the gravel and use a internal instead of the undergravel filter.

apart from running the internal for a few weeks before i do the switch what else can i do to insure a safe and happy change?

also is there any way to incorparate carbon into a under gravel filtration?

I have seen in my lfs a filter that is the upriser and you can put carbon and floss in that.

I always think when I see this type of filter that I would separate it and refill with bulk activated carbon & floss when needed to safe a few $'s since these filters are kind of expensive. ;)

I don't think the world wide web will help you :p

Sorry, couldn't resist ;)

Back to the question..... I would bag up some of the old gravel in a stocking so when you put the sand in you can lay the stocking on top. Leave it for a week or two and this will help with the re-colonisation :)

lol well spotted!!

oki dokey, suppose i better get a internal filter to get the change moving!
