Well I obviously let this slip my mind when I went on holiday, but thanks for all that gave it a go. Now let's vote for your favourite!

Poll will close on Tuesday,

Challege criteria was pretty simple

Tank Size? - 30g/125L
What fish? - ANYTHING found naturally in the fresh waters of South America

I voted for the one with bleeding heart tetras, cause I love bleeding heart tetras

Can't vote as I don't have enough posts but I would choose the Dawn Tetra & Corydoras Hastatus.

The blackwater tank with plenty of wood got my vote.. with the right fish (and those listed seem perfect) this type of tank ticks all the boxes in what a tropical fish tank should look like to me, as if you were looking into a basin/river in South America.
Can't wait to see some pictures of the eventual winner though :good:

Terry.

Terry, these are all theoretical stock choices.....I don't think anyone has actually got them set up and running. More of a "what would you LIKE to do".

LOL. I'm setting up the tank I suggested Taffy.. Zoddy's topic was happen stance. Although my stocking has evolved since the original post.

Went with the first choice as it contains a PAIR of German Blue Rams - and they are lovely fish.
We started with five but there so much squabbling going on. We identified the two who did get on with each other and returned the other three to the LFS.
We have had these two for just over eight weeks now and the smaller of the two will quite happily come and take food stuck to the end of my finger - it has a great inquisitive character. So if you get a decent pair of those, I don't think that you'll be disappointed.
Wherever you source them from, have a good long look at which fish gets on with which and pick them.

Cardinal tetra? I was put off tetra of any description due to NTD and the fact that the cardinals are NOT, apparently, as hardy as they used to be.
Yes they are colourful and with twenty, I have no doubt that when they shoal, it would be a terrific sight.
Have you given any thought to having 20 Harlequin Rasbora instead? Yes I know that they are not South American but they are a hardy and colourful fish. We have eight in our tank with another four to join them. The rams and the rasboras ignore each other.

I don't know anything about Sterbai Cory - yes I have read about them from time to time on this and other forums but I am not sure of them.
Personally I will be looking at changing our substrate to sand and getting 6 Pygmaeus Corydoras to fully stock the tank along with the 5 zebra danios we also have.

Good luck with your choice!!!!

Regards

David
